Mari > the mendenhall glacier, 13 miles from juneau. it was pretty cool, however the throngs of tourists made it seem like a theme park.

Mari > a mother black bear and her cubs had taken refuge in a marshy area near the visitor's center. they were just hanging out catching salmon in the creek, not paying any attention to the insane humans clustering around taking their photos.

Mari > we took a gondola up the mountain side. here's the view part way up. our ship, the oosterdam, is the one in the back with the blue hull.

Mari > that is one steep gondola line. look at that though... it's a straight shot to the ship.. you barely even have to walk in between! perfect for the typical overweight american!

Mari > since there's absolutely nothing to do onboard, dan, lars, and andreas found other ways to entertain themselves. this was of course when they were not playing black jack in the casino with robert, a newbie dealer who was slightly retarded and with whom they always won.
