Mari > looking towards the bow and the glacier beyond from the balcony of our room.
Mari > all the lovely passengers looking at the scenery!
Mari > the 40 mile wide, 40 story high hubbard glacier dwarfing a 1000 foot, 12 story cruise ship.
Mari > i wonder we were bow heavy?
Mari > we were sipping wine and nibbling bread and cheese while we viewed the majestic surroundings.... ohhh god sorry, i got a little carried away with my description of our posh cruise.
Mari > there were some decent sized hunks of ice... i'm glad i was on a huge ship
Mari > global warming in action!! nah not really... apparently, the hubbard glacier is one of the only glaciers that is still growing, surprisingly enough.
Mari > all the black stuff is dirt that has accumulating over the last bazillion years or so
Mari > art in sitka, our next stop.
Mari > sitka was the smallest port and did not have any piers large enough for our ship. we had to launch the tenders and ride them to shore. they are the most ridiculous cattle boats i ever seen.
Mari > a sitka totem
Mari > salmon!! this was a creek leading up to a hatchery but still... that is a ton of fish.
Mari > in awe of the salmon...
Mari > even out in the bay, the salmon are plentiful in alaska... you see them jumping quite often.
