Andreas and I go on a month long road trip in a Eurovan with no air conditioning.

Mari > mt. rainier looms in the distance as we leave seattle. ironically, the first couple days out of the northwest were some of the hottest of our whole trip! (we left right in the middle of that 95 degree heat wave in early july) ...at this point the ac was halfway working and was still blowing cooler air than outside... haha and we figured it couldn't get any worse!
Mari > we detoured through napa valley and stopped at a couple hoyty toyty wineries and then pitched our tent in the overly priced $25 a night napa valley campround... at least they had free hot showers!
Mari > my lovely cousin vanessa and i! she let us crash at her cute house in oakland and treated us to yummy ethiopian food that you eat with your hands!
Mari > i'm huge! vanessa is pretty tiny though... but still i'm huge!
Mari > my italian nana! i hadn't seen her a few years and made the mistake of asking if she remembered me (she's got alzheimers/dementia)... she gently scolded me and said, "of course i remember you!"
Mari > she is so cute... i wish you could see this in the picture but she had on this huge, gaudy ring containing a giant stone... i said, "wow nana, where on earth did you get that bling?" she replied, "i bought it for myself, i thought it was fun and pretty."
Mari > we made it to san diego and stayed with my step brother, colin and his fiancee, alana (she's the girl in orange). this was alana's birthday and we had brunch with her friends at a restaurant on the beach with free mimosas!

Mari > the famous hotel in coronado... they supposedly have a haunted room... i would have totally stayed in it if it hadn't been like $400!
Mari > we love san diego, can you tell? at least we love the always perfect weather! i mean really.. everything is more tolerable when it's always a sunny 72 degrees!
Mari > we seriously might consider living here when and if we come back from new zealand... if only it weren't so "californiay" you know?
Mari > ahhh yes there it is... the happy little americans sunbathing while the battleship in the distance heads to the middle east. lovely....
Mari > so we hung around colin and alana's place for almost a week and went to a beach almost every day. this is the hike down to black's beach... it's known for being a nude beach although we didn't and a good 90% of the nudes were dudes!
Mari > there were tons of para gliders hurling themselves off the cliff.. pretty fun to watch while being nude.
